Mold Toxicity

What is Mold?

Mold is a type of fungus that grows in multicellular structures called hyphae. It thrives in damp, humid, and warm environments, often appearing as a fuzzy or slimy growth in various colors like green, black, white, or yellow. Mold can be found in homes, buildings, or natural environments like soil and decaying plants.

Where can it be found?

Mold reproduces by releasing spores that can travel through the air, settling on surfaces where they can grow if the conditions are right. In buildings, mold often grows on materials like wood, drywall, carpet, and ceiling tiles, especially in places with poor ventilation or water damage.

How does it affect humans?

While mold plays an important ecological role by breaking down organic material, it can be a health risk in indoor environments. Mold exposure can cause allergic reactions, respiratory issues, and other health problems, particularly for people with asthma, allergies, or weakened immune systems.

What are the Symptoms of Mold Toxicity?

Mold exposure can cause a variety of symptoms, particularly in people who are sensitive to it. The symptoms can range from mild to severe and may affect the respiratory system, skin, eyes, and more. Common symptoms include:

Respiratory Symptoms:
  • Coughing (dry or productive)
  • Wheezing Shortness of breath
  • Chest tightness
  • Nasal congestion or runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Allergic Reactions:
  • Sneezing Itchy or watery eyes
  • Skin rashes or hives
  • Post-nasal drip
  • Fatigue
Other Symptoms:
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Memory problems or difficulty concentrating (known as "brain fog")
  • Eye irritation (red, itchy, or watery eyes)
  • Sinus congestion or sinus infections
Severe Reactions:

In some cases, mold exposure can trigger more serious reactions, especially in people with weakened immune systems, respiratory conditions (such as asthma), or allergies:

  • Asthma attacks in individuals with asthma Infections in people with compromised immune systems
  • Bleeding in the lungs (rare but serious, typically with exposure to toxic molds like Stachybotrys or "black mold")

How to Test for Mold?

We work with specialized labs to test your blood and stool.

How can Mold be Treated?

We adhere to precise protocols for addressing mold exposure, which involve the use of our Hyperbaric Chamber. This sealed, pressurized environment allows patients to breathe 100% oxygen at an elevated atmospheric pressure. Furthermore, we partner with top biomedical companies to offer premium detoxification and elimination supplements. Our IV suite is also available for tailored IV treatments.
